Solace Through Touch
Grief Massage

This is a safe space - Come as you are

What is grief massage?

A soothing calming massage session that allows the client to “be in their body”
while being in a safe space to process your grief.

How Do I Prepare For A Grief Massage?

  • Complete your General Intake Form (if you are first time client) - this one is required for all clients before receiving massage therapy.

  • Complete your grief massage specific intake prior to your first session - this will give some insight for your massage therapist about your health and preferences in relation to the session

  • Note: you will not be asked about your grief unless you choose to share with your massage therapist

  • Drink plenty of water

Post-session considerations

  • Drink a healthy amount of water

  • Try not to do anything strenuous or high energy

  • Allow yourself some down time

what to expect:

  • My table and my massage studio space is a safe space.

  • Wear comfort clothing (not required)

  • You will do a quick check-in prior to the session - mainly asking if you are holding grief in your body (if you are aware), if you have any changes in your body or medications, or if you want to bring any awareness to areas on your body (tenderness, bruising, etc.)

  • You will be offered essential oils to help enhance the experience; you will have a couple choices based on your preferences/allergies/etc.

  • Emotions/Tears/Crying: Sometimes clients may have emotional release during a grief massage session; this is welcomed and not shamed in any way. This session is for you to process what you need - I welcome tears and crying.

  • Communication:

    • This is vital for any session. The massage therapist will communicate how the session will be ran, including many of these points listed here

    • Please communicate as thoroughly as possible for your needs and comforts. Questions are always welcome and may help the massage therapist to make your session as easy and comfortable. Communication also may also help create a rapport with your massage therapist and you

  • Safety:

    • your emotional, mental, and physical safety is of the utmost importance while in my space. Whatever I can do to make your session as comfortable and safe, please let me know

  • Please note:

    • you will not be asked about your grief unless you choose to share with your massage therapist

  • Tissues will be available to you, you may grab those prior to or during your session. Your massage therapist will not ask if you want tissues as to not disturb your session. You may ask your massage therapist for assistance to get a tissue if you need.

  • Getting on the table:

    • you can dress down to your comfort level, just know that the less clothing, the easier access your massage therapist has to your back, legs, neck, shoulders, face.

  • What areas are worked?

    • Back

    • Legs (front/back) & Feet

    • Neck/Shoulders

    • Upper Pec Area (just below your clavicle)

    • Face

  • Areas not worked on during a grief massage?

    • Hips and Abdomen

  • What kind of pressure can I expect?

    • Light to medium pressure will be utilized throughout this full body massage

  • Talking:

    • This is a quiet massage to allow for the client to be able to “be in their body” and process what they need. The massage therapist will also be quiet aside from maybe the occasional check in for comfort.
